About Telescopes Geek

Updated on

Telescopes Geek helps adults and families pick a telescope they will actually use.

We compare the models people buy most, explain the terms in plain words, and give clear picks by budget and by what you want to see.

You don't need to know astronomy. If you can tell a bright planet from a star, you know enough to start.

What we cover

Our guides cover refractors, reflectors, tabletop Dobsonians and app-guided scopes from brands like Celestron and Sky-Watcher, plus well-known budget makers.

We also explain the parts and the setup. That includes aperture, mounts, eyepieces, finders, Barlow lenses, collimation and phone adapters.

What we do

For every telescope we cover, we read the specs, the maker's details and what buyers often say after they use it.

Then we turn that into short guides, side-by-side comparisons and ranked picks. Our How we research page shows the steps.

What we don't do

We don't make or sell telescopes, and no brand pays us to rank its products.

Telescopes Geek is an independent site. We aren't affiliated with Celestron, Sky-Watcher or any other telescope maker.

We don't claim to have tested every scope ourselves. When we pick a model, we tell you why, based on its specs, its features and buyer feedback.

We don't cover looking at the sun. Never point a telescope at the sun without a solar filter made for that job, and follow the maker's safety instructions.

How we earn money

Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

That never changes which products we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
